The repairs are real, and they're measured in years. What your family drinks is measured in glasses.

Not our numbers — theirs

What you can't see
"Some people who drink water containing haloacetic acids in excess of the MCL over many years may have an increased risk of getting cancer." — Required health-effects language, JXN Water 2025 Water Quality Report
$600 million committed. A ten-year schedule.
Why this matters tonight
Byproducts keep forming while treated water sits in the pipes — which is why they're measured at taps across the city, not at the plant.
Limits are enforced as annual averages. By the time a notice goes out, the water has been through your kitchen for months.
4.5 ppb citywide is real progress. One home in the same round measured 192. The last mile is the one you control.
Under an EPA emergency order since 2020 · federal court oversight since November 2022 · deficiencies first cited in 2019–2020 are, per the utility's own 2025 report, "currently scheduled to be addressed by December 2026, contingent upon current approval by the EPA." That's not a knock on the people doing the work — it's just not a risk your family has to keep taking in the meantime.
And everyone deserves it.

"Where the river is our only source, Clearbrook purifiers make every drop clean and safe to drink."
Questions Jackson is asking
The utility says the system meets federal standards, independent testing in February 2026 found no bacteria and only low-level lead at a few taps, and boil notices have become far less frequent. We're not telling you otherwise. What the 2025 report does show is two disinfection-byproduct limits exceeded, public notices issued, and individual homes measuring lead as high as 192 ppb. A filter removes your dependence on any given quarter's results.
Byproducts of disinfection — they form when chlorine-based treatment reacts with organic matter, and keep forming as water travels through the pipes. Regulators track long-term exposure above federal limits. Jackson exceeded both in 2025. Clearbrook filters are lab-tested against chemical disinfectants and their byproducts.
Because the average isn't your house. The 90th-percentile figure was 4.5 ppb, but samples ranged from non-detect to 192 ppb and 3 of 100 homes exceeded the action level. The report attributes tap lead to household plumbing — the stretch no citywide test measures for your address.
